Women in Abaya, is a 30″x45″ series of 30 acrylic-on-paper paintings. They are spontaneous expressions of how I saw myself and other women in Middle East culture. I painted these during the six years I worked as a university art professor in Kuwait.
Unlike my other work exhibited in Kuwait, I did not show the abaya paintings out of concern for misinterpretation. Because they were rolled up, these were the only paintings that were not damaged or destroyed when I shipped my work stateside.
