Buildings were constructed out of sea stone bought from a quarry in northwestern Kuwait called Ashirig. Mud mixed with seed husks and shells was used as a mortar to hold the sea stones together. Bricks imported from Iraq or Iran, or sun-dried bricks of mud and plaster were also used for archways, flooring and decoration.
